In 1994, Elkhorn Ranch started out with three stallions, C.R.Dreams, Mr. Kool and Holy Smoke.  C.R.Dreams was sold as his lines didn't nitch with the bloodlines of Elkhorn's mares.  Mr. Kool, a gray son of  Mister Mister out of Indomitable was sold to Ashleigh Stables when he proved to be to tempermental and unpredictable.

 Holy Smoke, a gray son of Smoke Jumper out of Holey Socks, on the other had displayed a temperment very seldom found in a stallion.  When not in the breeding shed, he was easily handled by women and children.  You could find him at the far end of his pasture babysitting the young foals while their mothers were off eating or curled up under his favorite shade tree with seven year old Timothy Hambone using him as a back rest.

 Smoky prove to be the best choice of the three. He went on to sire a long list of stakes winners during his years at stud. His son, Smoke Signals, owned by Shamrock Farms, was 1996 Sprint Champion.  Smoke Signals' son, Silver Beacon, went on to become the 2002 Steeplechase Endurance Grand Champion.

 In 1996, the ranch purchased Dark Warrior, a stakes winning son of Black Jack out of The Highlander mare, Highland Crystal. With the retirement of Holy Smoke, this dark bay stallion is currently our senior stallion.  Not as prolific as Smoky, he does have a list of stakes winning sons and daughters to date.

  1998 saw the purchase of Fair Play, a dark bay son of Irish River and Toy Soldier, a gray son of Military Gamble from Rainbow's End Farm.

  The end of 2002 saw our first Grand Champion, Silver Beacon retire to take his grandfather's place in the stud barn.  His first foals begin racing in 2007.

  We are pleased to announce the purchase of Lord Ruckus from Hidden Valley Farm. This black bay son of Twister out of Lady Megan is a 1/2 brother to multi stakes winner, Geisha Girl and will begin standing here at the ranch in 2006.
